Goats n Sheep

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left."

Have you ever asked your self what is the difference between Goats & Sheep than?? I have been ... i guess ever since i read this passage from young but never really went to do a search n reflection on it..... I had a bit of time to do research today & I kinda tot it might be nice to share my tots n findings with you.

This started me thinking about what the difference between these 2 wonderful creatures while God had created. The first thing that differs them is the looks of these 2 creatures. The goat is more slender while the sheep is fluffy-ier. In fact the goat has hairs while the sheep has fleece. (you remember the rhyme "Mary had a little lamb .. its fleece were white as snow") A goats tail stands up while a sheep's hangs down. The horns of a goat is narrower, more upright and less carved to that of a sheep. A goat has a beard while sheep has a mane.

But like people always say, looks is only skin deep but what lies beyond that matters most...

Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’

Goats are curious by nature and are quite independent whereas the sheep prefers to stay in its flock. Goat are always found in abundance in the wild whereas all accounts of the sheep are domesticated suggesting the greater symbiotic relationship with mankind. When people are independent, they tend to be more self righteous, they think they know it all, hence they move off from their herds, making it difficult for shepherds to herd them together when grazing is over. Furthermore, when wolves come (MR S.A. TAN), making it easier for the wolves to attack all the "independent" individuals.

Their eating habits differs too. Goats are typically browsers, feeding on leaves, shrubs, twigs and vines. This would than spoil the crops of most farmers and it would also be troublesome for farmers to have to grow such crops for the goats to feed on where as Sheep on the other hand loves to graze on the grass clover which is easier to look for & shepherds just needs to look for greener pastures.

A sheep also gives us wool while the goat has doesn't. Providing for people would be the duty of the sheep and similarly to us humans we are called to do the same. Feeding the hungry, Quenching the thirsty, welcoming the sick & clothing the naked. Many of us do take this literally, but in fact, as much as yes we are to do the above stated, but it is beyond what it is.

Feeding the hungry people who are starving, who are under nourished from the spiritual food, and for those who are thirsting for the kingdom of God and for his words but are lost somewhere in the wilderness or even lured in by the glamours SOCIETY, For those who are outcasted, those social rejects of the society and those being mocked at school everyday, or even at work. How are we reaching out to these people? How than are we Clothing those who have been striped off their dignity? who have been made naked by the words others used on them? Or are we the source of their nakedness?

Though they look quite similar and bleat the same way there are pretty much differences between the 2 species and have distinct and separate traits of their own .

How than can we be a source of hope & light to people this Lent? Today's reading also mentions the ways in which we must lead our lives, by example for the people around us. Not to tear people down, not to hurt others not to bring disharmony into people's life and not to be the source of them committing such sins.

“You shall not steal.
You shall not lie or speak falsely to one another.
You shall not swear falsely by my name,
thus profaning the name of your God.
I am the LORD.

“You shall not defraud or rob your neighbor.
You shall not withhold overnight the wages of your day laborer.
You shall not curse the deaf,
or put a stumbling block in front of the blind,
but you shall fear your God.
I am the LORD.

“You shall not act dishonestly in rendering judgment.
Show neither partiality to the weak nor deference to the mighty,
but judge your fellow men justly.
You shall not go about spreading slander among your kin;
nor shall you stand by idly when your neighbor’s life is at stake.
I am the LORD.

“You shall not bear hatred for your brother in your heart.
Though you may have to reprove him,
do not incur sin because of him.
Take no revenge and cherish no grudge against your fellow countrymen.
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
I am the LORD."

Being in love

Well I believe many of us in our lives , one time or another has had someone whom they love a lot. Be it your parents or even someone special. When there is a special request from them , do u abid by it? Why do u do so? Coz u r force to, coz he \she means a lot to u or coz u love them? I guess sometimes when we conform to the promises that we made with the other party, mostly is out of love for that person n simply also coz we love them. For example, I had a close friends whom I made promises to and vice versa. I guess when I keep to the promises is simply coz I love them and coz they mean a lot to me too. - be safe, be happy always, take care of myself.

Similarly, the reading today that struck me ... Many a times we say we must obey the commandments god has given u, but do we do it out of fear? Of punishment? Of eternal demnation? How many of us actually do it coz we love him? & similarly, when we love our gf/bf or special someone, we don promise them coz we fear them, but coz we love them.

The readings of the day encourages us to love him, walk his ways n keep his commandments. Looks so simple, but seem so difficult, coz many a times, these commandants are simply too difficult to live out. However when we were called to pick out our crosses n follow him, no one said it was going to be easy. n it is even further emphasize “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.” n “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?"

During this season of lent, it is a good time to take stock of our lives n what we could do with it to follow the commandments

What are you doing this for?

Have you ever tot of among the 365 days of our lives, we can take 40 days to reflect on.

Lent is here ... finally ... after 325 days .. lent is back... but this time what are you going to do for the season of lent? Doing Good Deeds? Reaching out to people? Giving Alms? Praying? Fasting from your favourite Char kway Tiao, Rojak, Mee siam or Har Choong Kai etc ? Abstaining from your favourite TV shows, Games or even habits?

SO... What are you doing all this things for ?

In this season of lent I am also going to take this time to re-examine my relationship with God and my purpose of doing certain things, my actions to people and also things I am going to do this lent. It is also a time where I would love to reconcile with God.

Things I would like to sacrifice:

To keep a Healthy Lifestyle : cut down on food / meals - eat my veg & exercise

I had a wonderful time yesterday with TOL & Spice boys... Time together is just precious, beautiful & sweet as always. At the same time I took this time to just reflect on the game we went to play tgt - bowling. Just standing there watching each bowling ball being bowled down the lanes, i reflected on my own life.

As I was sharing with the spice boys, sometimes life is just like a game of bowling.
Firstly you need to pick the ball and shoe which you are going to use, too heavy a ball, might not give you the best result, coz your focus is not carrying the ball whilst too light a ball might not hit the pins necessary for your strength use. I took a 8 n 9 pound ball but i was never able to hit all pins - no matter how straight i threw - coz it was too light. A big shoe, you are going to trip, fall and die. whilst too small a shoe will ensure a blister at the end of the games.

Secondly, but of coz , it is the actual playing of the game, picking up the ball, aiming and looking far towards the end goal & taking steps towards the throwing line. Finally letting go of the bowling ball so that it can move towards your target.

Thirdly, Certainly but in-material to good bowlers, comes the selecting of lanes. We had some PRO bowling next to our lane ... inferior man!! the girl - 5 years old - was so PRO .

Reflection: A simple act of picking up the ball to put up your full battle gear for Christ. looking towards your end goal of our eternal promise land, taking small baby steps towards the battle field ,doing his works just for the love of Christ. Finally when you are all prepared, to take courage and trust in Christ - Firstly LET GO: of the ball - Secondly LET GOD: do his will - Lastly, LET BE : bowling is a game, ultimately whatever the result, take it embrace it & walk out of the game knowing you will be back to do a better job. And if our eyes are Fixed on our heavenly father, no matter what storm, hurricane, typhoon comes, it will never be difficult for us. - it is never easy to pick up our little crosses but, he will be there to journey with us all our lives.
